About The Artist
Mike Elliott was born in 1979 in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, near the edge of the cornfields. He was raised by his single mother, who bought him his first point and shoot camera. After living his first 21 years in Illinois, Mike moved to San Francisco in 2000.
It was in San Francisco that Mike attended the Academy of Art University, where he studied photography. Living in the natural beauty of the american west, Mike gravitated towards fine art and landscape photography. While studying at the Academy, Mike learned proficiency with film, digital, and alternative photography processes.
Using these techniques, he honed his skills at landscape, still life, architecture, portraiture, product, and travel photography. During Mike's years at the Academy, he learned the tools of the trade, including digital, 35mm, medium format, and large format cameras.
For his personal work he shoots using the Hasselblad medium format film camera, because of its wide tonal range and high quality lenses. For his commisioned work, Mike shoots with Nikon digital cameras in order to expedite images to the client. While proficient in both studio and location shoots, Mike is also well-versed in the art of digital retouching and printing.
The intense curriculum of the Academy taught Mike the skills needed to start his own company. In 2005, he founded Mike Elliott Photography, a San Francisco-based outlet for his business and fine art projects. The next year, Mike launched his first online photography portfolio, found at http://elliottphotos.net
